History of Oblivion (2011)

“The History of Oblivion” originated from a historical event in Iran. One of the first lead presses was imported to Iran almost one hundred years ago to replace lithography. Unfortunately, the lead press was never able to publish books because Islamic leaders put a ban on it. As a consequence, the lead letters were seized by the Military, melted down, and turned into bullets. In my installation the audience is invited to interact with a typewriter, which sounds gunfire every time the keys are pushed. Above the piece I include text taken from the Iranian Constitution: Akhundzade (an Iranian intellectual states): “The book is unique, it is a good memento, and advisement is profitable but it has been written for death nation”.
